Wondering about the surprise element of which y'all spoke re Advent 4. Surprise! The Messiah didn't come as a mighty warrior...
What I'm thinking here is that Israel expected (still expects) that the Messiah will be BORN ... as a babe... among them... son of David and all.
So... for whom would it be a surprise? Perhaps the surprising, unexpected, inexplicable is the king of Creation coming in such humble circumstances... in a borrowed room rather than in a palace.
And he never claimed the place in the palace... just in our hearts.
